It's in the Bag, Baby

Are you using duct tape to keep your laptop in its case as you walk down the street? Is the strap gone, and zipper broken? Or, are you just tucking your computer under your arm when moving from place to place hoping you won't need to use it longer than two hours as that's when the battery will die and you don't have anywhere to carry the power cord?

If any of the above sound familiar, it's time to think about a new bag or case for your laptop. And, if you're in the market for a new way to transport your computer, you need to consider a few things before making that purchase. While it's not a major buy from a cost perspective, your laptop case or bag will protect what IS a major investment, your laptop, so it's important to choose one that will work best for you.

Below are some common computer-bag buyer "types" and the best choices for them:

- Road Warrior - You're a laptop power user or frequent traveler and you need your laptop bag to keep your computer safe from drops, airport security checks and the general wear and tear of constantly being relocated. CHOOSE: A computer bag that is well padded, with a thick comfortable strap. Also, consider a hard-sided (plastic or fiberglass) bag for even greater protection.

- Fashion Plate - You think it's important to have a computer bag that is both fashionable and functional. Laptop bag designers increasingly are catering to those who want to look good while safely transporting their computers so the choices in color, style, design and materials is huge. CHOOSE: Leather. It's very durable and looks great for years. Also, check out some of the vinyl bags in bold colors that complement even the most-style conscious computer users.

- Hard-Core Gamer - You LOVE gaming on your computer. You take it everywhere and you spend hours everyday playing games. Because of your laptop is heavy, you'll need a laptop bags that's comfortable. Fashion is probably a secondary consideration for you. CHOOSE: A messenger bag. It's great to toss over your shoulder or across your body for better distribution of all that weight. And there's plenty of room for peripherals and additional batteries.

- Student - You're constantly on the go, moving from class to class, across campus and to your part-time job. You need a bag that's comfortable, cool and well-padded (you're not always super careful about where you drop it) and you're not willing to compromise looks for functionality. CHOOSE: A cool nylon or leather backpack that will keep your laptop safe but out of the way with plenty of room for your notebooks and textbooks.

Good luck and happy bag hunting!
